Senior Women Michaelmas 2014 Report

The Univ Women have had an extremely successful start to the year, despite having just three returners from last year’s W1 squad. Yet the depth in the women’s side, and the dedication to training this term has meant that we have seen some great results.

In Autumn Fours, the first regatta of the year, we reached the Semi-Finals of the Women’s Coxed Fours, beating Trinity A by 1 length and Brasenose A by ¾ length, but unfortunately losing to Jesus A in the Semi-Finals by 1 length. However, it was a promising start and provided a great platform on which to build on over the term. The next opportunity to race came in IWL A, in which we won the Women’s Coxed Fours, in a time of 5:36.5. It was a strong and technical row, showing that the training since Autumn Fours had really paid off. And don't worry if you missed the race, you can watch it here.

Nephthys Regatta in 6th week offered another opportunity for side-by-side racing, and we finished 2nd in the Senior Coxed Fours. Univ showed great determination throughout the afternoon, but particularly up against Trinity, to pull ahead just before the finish. If you missed the race, you can watch it here (it's an exciting race to watch!). Univ also raced Wolfson and the Academicals, beating both with solid rows, but narrowly lost to Jesus A in the Finals, by ¾ length. It was an exciting afternoon with lots of high-quality rowing, although we are now more determined than ever to beat Jesus!

IWL B was the final race of the term in 7th week, and despite a last minute Cox Substitution and a strong stream, we won the Women’s Coxed Fours in a time of 6:03.0, which was a great end to the term.

Well done to all the girls for a committed term of rowing and training, and also to those who did not race this term. The results show that the training has really paid off. We would all like to say a massive thank you to our coach, John Ewans, for his support throughout. Hopefully, we can build on this term’s success throughout the rest of the year, with some great results at Torpids and Summer Eights.
